Ketlen Vieira appears to have arrived at a fork in the road.

The Nova Uniao export will net the most significant opportunity of her career when she faces former Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight titleholder Miesha Tate in the UFC Fight Night 198 headliner on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Once viewed as a title contender in waiting, Vieira has lost two of her past three bouts. She last competed at UFC Fight Night 185, where she wound up on the wrong side of a unanimous decision against Yana Kunitskaya on Feb. 20. Tate, meanwhile, finds herself back in the limelight not long after she ended a four-year retirement. She last fought on July 17, when she took care of Marion Reneau with punches in the third round of their UFC on ESPN 26 pairing.

As Vieira and Tate move ever closer to their high-stakes showdown, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

30: Years of age for Vieira, who was born in Manaus, Brazil, on Aug. 26, 1991.

4: Vieira wins by submission, accounting for 36% of her career total (11). Her methods of choice: two rear-naked chokes, one arm-triangle choke and one kimura. Vieira owns two other wins by knockout or technical knockout and five more by decision.

3: First-round stoppages on the Vieira resume. Interestingly enough, they took place in succession. She dispatched Monique Bastos with a rear-naked choke in 4:07 at Mr. Cage Championship 16 on March 12, 2015, submitted Laet Ferreira with a rear-naked choke in 2:22 at Big Way Fight 1 on Sept. 12, 2015 and struck down Jessica Maciel with punches in 3:20 at Mr. Cage Championship 20 on Dec. 17, 2015.

12: Takedowns by which Vieira has outlanded the opposition since she joined the UFC roster in 2016. She has completed 13 of them inside the Octagon—including a career-high four of them in a split decision over Kelly Faszholz in her UFC Fight Night 96 organizational debut—and surrendered only one.

8: Consecutive calendar years in which Vieira has made at least one appearance, the Feb. 20 decision defeat to Kunitskaya included. She went 2-0 in 2014, 3-0 in 2015, 2-0 in 2016, 2-0 in 2017, 1-0 in 2018, 0-1 in 2019 and 1-0 in 2020.

35: Years of age for Tate, who was born on Aug. 18, 1986 in Tacoma, Washington.

7: Tate victories by submission, accounting for 37% of her career total (19). Her methods of choice: three armbars, one rear-naked choke, one arm-triangle choke, one shoulder choke and one triangle choke. Tate holds four other victories by knockout or technical knockout and seven more by decision.

126: Days spent by Tate as undisputed UFC women’s bantamweight champion. She laid claim to the title with a fifth-round technical submission of Holly Holm at UFC 196 on March 5, 2016 and surrendered it when she submitted to a first-round rear-naked choke from Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016. It ranks as the second-shortest reign in the history of the 135-pound weight class.

82: Seconds needed for Tate to put away Jessica Bednark with punches at Freestyle Cage Fighting 27 on Jan. 31, 2009. Having occurred in her fifth professional appearance, it remains the fastest finish of her 26-fight career.

.714: Cumulative winning percentage between the six women—Raquel Pennington, Amanda Nunes, Ronda Rousey (twice), Cat Zingano, Sarah Kaufman and Kaitlin Young—who have beaten Tate. They boast a combined record of 90-35-1. Advertisement
