It might as well be Zeus and Poseidon standing across from one other inside the Octagon.

Francis Ngannou will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight crown against interim titleholder Ciryl Gane in the UFC 270 headliner on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. At stake: the right to be called the “Baddest Man on the Planet.” Ngannou enters the cage on a five-fight winning streak. He last competed at UFC 260, where he punched out Stipe Miocic and captured the undisputed heavyweight championship in the second round of their March 27 encounter. The unbeaten Gane, meanwhile, has compiled a 7-0 record since he joined the UFC roster in 2019. He last fought at UFC 265, where he chopped down Derrick Lewis with punches to claim the interim heavyweight title in the third round of their Aug. 7 pairing.

As Ngannou and Gane march toward their hotly anticipated battle, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

35: Years of age for Ngannou, who was born on Sept. 5, 1986 in Batie, Cameroon.

12: Ngannou victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 75% of his career total (16). His list of UFC victims: Miocic, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Curtis Blaydes (twice), Alistair Overeem, Andrei Arlovski, Bojan Mihajlovic and Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira. Ngannou owns four other victories by submission.

1.64: Knockdowns per 15 minutes of UFC competition for Ngannou, placing him fifth on the promotion’s all-time heavyweight list. He trails only Chris Daukaus (5.26), Todd Duffee (2.91), Shane Carwin (2.03) and Pat Barry (1.74).

4: Sub-minute finishes on the Ngannou resume. He submitted Luc Ngeleka with a guillotine choke in 43 seconds at Strength & Honor Championship 10 on Sept. 20, 2014, buried Blaydes with punches in 45 seconds at UFC Fight Night 141 on Nov. 24, 2018, punched out Velasquez in 26 seconds at UFC on ESPN 1 on Feb. 17, 2019 and struck down Rozenstruik with punches in 20 seconds at UFC 249 on May 9, 2020.

.797: Cumulative winning percentage between the three men—Miocic, Lewis and Zoumana Cisse—who have defeated Ngannou. They boast a combined record of 59-15.

31: Years of age for Gane, who was born in La Roche-sur-Yon, France, on May 6, 1990.

3: Gane wins by submission, accounting for 30% of his career total (10). His methods of choice: one heel hook, one arm-triangle choke and one guillotine choke. Gane holds four other wins by knockout or technical knockout and three more by decision.

314: Significant strikes by which Gane has outlanded his seven UFC opponents: Lewis, dos Santos, Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov, Tanner Boser, Don’Tale Mayes and Raphael Pessoa. He has connected on 568 such strikes while absorbing only 254 in return.

102: Seconds needed for Gane to submit Bobby Sullivan with a guillotine choke at a TKO Major League MMA event on Aug. 2, 2018. Having occurred in his professional debut, it remains the fastest finish of his brief but eventful 10-fight career.
