3. ‘Red Panty Night’
The press conference for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s “Go Big” campaign was the stuff of legend. Conor McGregor would go on to flatten Jose Aldo to unify the featherweight championship months later, but on Sept. 4, he went on a tirade against anyone who dared to go word-for-word with him. When the subject of facing lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos or perennial contender Donald Cerrone was broached, the “Notorious” one did not hold back.
Dos Anjos was stunned. Cerrone and Chad Mendes tried to exchange words with McGregor, but the quick-lipped Irishman was in a place all his own. The “Red Panty Night” comment was immortalized in the trash-talk lexicon and to this day follows McGregor wherever he goes.
