Chris “Big Poppa” Schnake will be missed. | Photo: J. Sherwood

I just wanted to say that I am bummed out about the passing of Chris “Big Poppa” Schnake. It was always awesome to go to local shows in the Midwest or here around New Orleans and see him. He was a bit goofy sometimes, but I think it says something that a lot of the best MMA memories I have involve him. He could really bring energy and soul to a small local show. -- Brad, from New Orleans

Jeff Sherwood, founder: Brad, I agree with you 100 percent. Chris “Big Poppa” Schnake was a staple to the Midwest MMA scene. He told me he averaged a show a week for most of his announcing career. The funny thing about Schnake is people either loved him or hated him; no one was on the fence. However, I sat cageside for many of the shows he was working and could not keep myself from laughing out loud and just having a good time when he was on the microphone.

If you are not aware of “Big Poppa” Schnake, feel free to listen to his last radio interview, which I conducted with him before he passed. You will get him for 90 minutes, and he will tell you exactly who he was and where he came from. We laughed many times together doing this interview.

Chris Schnake loved and lived his life for his two boys, Xander and Louden, and MMA. We lost one of the good people in the sport when he passed. He may be gone but will never be forgotten. I will miss our long talks, buddy.
