4. International Fighting Championship “Global Domination”
Sept. 6, 2003 | Denver

In its heyday, the IFC was something to behold; and it’s “Global Domination” event at the Pepsi Center in Denver remains the crown jewel in the organization’s history. It unleashed a blitzkrieg of MMA mayhem with a card that overflowed with high-level talent.

A same-day light heavyweight tournament was as good as it gets, as Renato Sobral defeated Jeremy Horn by unanimous decision to win the competition. However, “Babalu” did not run through a bunch of stiffs on his way to the title. No, he had to turn away Trevor Prangley and Mauricio Rua just to reach the final. Horn, meanwhile, eliminated Mikhail Avetisyan in the quarterfinals and submitted Forrest Griffin with an armbar in the semis. Chael Sonnen also competed in the tournament, and Nate Marquardt struck Steve Gomm into submission in a non-tourney affair.
