Rousey walked away from the 2015 ESPYs with not one but two awards. She beat out Serena Williams, who was in the midst of an historic run in women’s tennis, and two others -- Breanna Stewart and Lindsey Vonn -- for “Best Female Athlete” honors and then turned her attention to a more significant prize.

The 28-year-old also captured the “Best Fighter” ESPY at the expense of fellow UFC fighter Donald Cerrone and boxers Gennady Golovkin, Terence Crawford and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Some expected Mayweather to take the award again -- he had won it six times previously -- on the strength of his lopsided unanimous decision victory over rival Manny Pacquiao. Instead, it went to Rousey, who had retained the UFC women’s bantamweight title with 16- and 14-second finishes on Alexis Davis and Cat Zingano.
