5. Rumble on the Rock 8

Eric Esch, the man known as “Butterbean,” fought Wesley Correira in the main event, but Rumble on the Rock 8 was made memorable not by the headlining heavyweights but by a spectacular welterweight tournament that included Anderson Silva, Jake Shields, Carlos Condit, Frank Trigg, Yushin Okami and Dave Menne.

In the eight-man draw, Trigg took a 15-minute decision from Ronald Jhun; Condit knocked out Renato Verissimo in 17 seconds; and Shields outdueled Menne across three five-minute rounds. Perhaps most memorable was the clash between Silva and Okami, which preceded the Brazilian’s historic UFC run and ended with his being disqualified for an illegal upkick. “The Spider” would not lose again for more than seven years, as he rattled off 17 consecutive victories and became arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all-time.
