Still best known for choking former Pride Fighting Championships lightweight titleholder Takanori Gomi unconscious at Pride Bushido 10, Aurelio had gone 1-1 in two UFC starts ahead of his pairing with Roberts at the Broomfield Event Center. It did not take long for his world-class Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills to make an appearance. Aurelio connected with a straight right hand that floored Roberts at the outset. He then swarmed with punches, transitioned to an armbar and authored a memorable finish just 16 seconds into the first round. Aurelio did not parlay his submission into sustained success. In fact, he went on to lose his next three fights under the UFC banner, dropping decisions to Tyson Griffin, Hermes Franca and Evan Dunham before being cut by the promotion.
