5. Eddie Alvarez vs. Roger Huerta

When Bellator signed Huerta away from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, it was hailed as something of a coup. However, “El Matador” failed to match the hype with results, and his surprisingly brief three-fight stay with the promotion came to a disappointing end against Alvarez.

The Philadelphia native forced a stoppage just 10 minutes into their Bellator 33 headliner at the Liacouras Center, as Huerta was deemed unfit to continue between the second and third rounds. A replacement for the injured Pat Curran, his lead leg had been tenderized by a series of crippling Alvarez kicks. It was not a pleasant experience for Huerta, who had been finished just once in 26 previous appearances.

Alvarez pieced together beautiful punching combinations to the body and head, fired his jab and remained committed to punishing his counterpart’s lower extremities. Huerta was game early -- he executed a suplex and spent time in the Alvarez guard -- but his situation steadily deteriorated, as did the condition of his leg. By the end of Round 2, he had nothing left to offer, and the ringside physician affirmed that conclusion.
