Featherweights
Hyder Amil (8-0, 0-0 UFC) vs. Fernie Garcia (10-4, 0-3 UFC)Amil figures to be a fun addition to the featherweight division, and he looks to get his UFC career off to a strong start in his debut. Amil tends to weaponize his pace, which was on full display in his contract-winning performance on Dana White’s Contender Series in August. It was not a dominant win, but through three rounds of a wrestling-heavy affair, Amil was the one who found second and third winds to pick up the pace and get the victory over the finish line. That has been the story for “The Hurricane”—he might have to fight through adversity to win, but he will keep fighting—and after a few late opponent changes, Garcia steps in to welcome him to the Octagon. This marks a move up from bantamweight for Garcia, who is in search of his first UFC victory after three losses. Garcia can blast an overaggressive opponent given the opportunity, but that has not arisen so far, with him usually either getting picked apart or outwrestled over the course of his fights. This might be the best shot of Garcia’s UFC career thus far at landing that knockout blow, but he has not shown much of an ability to turn around negative momentum once things start to go south; and Amil figures to quickly take the initiative. The pick is Amil via decision.
