Easton was awarded the split decision victory in the main event of the latest offering from the UWC on Oct. 3 in Fairfax, Va. The decision was loudly derided by mixed martial arts observers, as it appeared clear Beebe took at least the last three rounds by holding back mount and shutting down Easton’s offense.
Virginia’s MMA oversight authority launched an investigation into the bout; a spokeswoman told Sherdog.com the commission will not record an official result of the fight until officials finish an investigation that could result in the bout being declared a no contest. The commission initiated the investigation, though it had not received a written complaint from Beebe’s camp. One was being prepared.
Lost in the static was the outcome of another title fight. Pat Runez, of Arizona Combat Sports, became the first UWC flyweight champion by toughing out a win over Greg Jackson disciple John Dodson via unanimous decision.
