Lawler reclaimed the Icon Sport middleweight championship and did so in brutal fashion against a man for whom he showed open disdain. Trigg, who made the mistake of kissing Lawler at the weigh-in on the eve of their battle, was on the receiving end of a horrific beating in Hawaii. “Twinkle Toes” attempted to keep Lawler off-balance with forward pressure, takedowns and clinches, and for a time, he was successful. However, Lawler turned the tide in the second round, where he knocked down the Rochester, New York, native on two occasions. In the fourth, a fatiguing Trigg carried his hands low and continued to engage “Ruthless Robbie” on the feet. Lawler backed him to the corner and unleashed a vicious multi-punch barrage punctuated by sweeping left hook. A semi-conscious Trigg slumped to the canvas in a seated position and was promptly met with right uppercut for good measure. The end came 1:40 into Round 4. The savagery was off the charts.
