6. Yves Edwards vs. Josh Thomson
UFC 49
Aug. 21, 2004 | Las Vegas

This was the last lightweight fight the Ultimate Fighting Championship promoted before deactivating the 155-pound weight class for a time. If there was ever a bout to send a division into hibernation in style, this was it.

Edwards slammed Thomson to the mat from behind, only to see “The Punk” quickly bolt back to his feet. Edwards then clung to his back and pushed him toward the fence before letting go. Sensing the opportunity to strike was then, Thompson whirled around with a near-perfect backfist. Unfortunately for him, Edwards already had his right leg in mid-air, looking to strike from behind. Thomson spun right into Edwards’ shin, and once it connected, he was finished. He fell onto his right side and absorbed several punches before the bout was stopped.
