Reyes authored one of the enduring highlights of Bellator’s early days, as he disposed of Payan with a second-round spinning back fist in the Season 1 featherweight tournament semifinals at the Central Pavilion Arena. Payan collapsed 1:56 into Round 2.
Not much about the fight hinted at a highlight-reel finish. Reyes struck for a series of takedowns and largely neutralized the Arizona Combat Sports rep’s active guard. A little less than two minutes into the second round, he drew the aggressive Payan toward him, faked a right kick and unleashed a spinning back fist with his left arm. The punch connected beautifully, and Payan hit the deck face down in a semi-conscious state. Reyes mopped up what was left with a few unanswered shots to the head.
Reyes went on to lose to Joe Soto in the tournament final and has yet to win another fight.
