6. Georges St. Pierre
Love him or hate him, “Rush” was one of the most dominating figures in the UFC when he ruled over the welterweight division. Yes, he gave his critics ammunition by often playing it safe following his knockout loss to Matt Serra, but his grinding style yielded plenty of fruit inside the cage and helped St. Pierre become the greatest welterweight of all-time.
No matter who he fought, St. Pierre executed takedowns -- a record 87 of them in UFC competition -- and pounded away with strikes. Nick Diaz, Dan Hardy, B.J. Penn, Jon Fitch, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Sean Sherk and Matt Hughes all felt the Tristar Gym cornerstone’s wrath on the mat, and they were powerless to stop him. St. Pierre was criticized for his approach, but he rattled off 12 straight wins before leaving the sport and vacating the welterweight championship following a controversial split decision over Johny Hendricks in November 2013. It is hard to argue with the results.
