UFC 106 Preview: The Prelims
Uno vs. Camoes
Nov 20, 2009
Caol Uno vs.
Fabricio
Camoes
The Breakdown: After having his UFC return spoiled in an uninspiring bout with Spencer Fisher, Uno looks to rebound against the debuting Brazilian prospect. A rebound certainly looks likely, as Camoes’ jiu-jitsu-centric style seems a poor match for Uno’s superior wrestling and equally slick grappling.
Camoes will find little respite on the feet, as his striking lacks
the sheen displayed by Uno, who has managed to develop into a
capable striker over the course of his lengthy career. All in all,
hardly the matchup for which Camoes must have hoped when he
received the call from the UFC.
The X-Factor: After he spent the last decade competing against elite competition, one has to wonder just how much Uno has left in the tank. At 34 in a young man’s sport, he has to prove he can do more than just survive every time he steps into the cage, and Camoes will be chomping at the bit for the chance to make him look like an old man.

The Bottom Line: The day will come when Uno can no longer keep up with the next generation of talent, but that day remains off in the distance. He will prove it here by completely outclassing Camoes from bell to bell. Expect Uno’s wrestling and stout grappling to frustrate Camoes at every turn, as the Japanese legend takes home a lopsided decision win.
