Odds and Ends

• The Jamie Varner vs. Benson Henderson WEC lightweight title unification match will headline WEC 46 on Jan. 10 in Sacramento, Calif. Urijah Faber returns to action on the card against Raphael Assuncao.

• M-1 Global, the promotional outfit behind Fedor Emelianenko, filed suit this week against Affliction for canceling its Aug. 2 “Trilogy” show. The suit claims breach of contract because Affliction allegedly strung M-1 along as if the event were still going to take place, even though Affliction planned to cancel the show if it were to reach a deal with the UFC. The Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers fight that takes place Saturday on CBS was reportedly planned to headline the Affliction card after Josh Barnett fell out of the main event due to failing a steroid test.

• Not all of this week's Strikeforce developments were CBS-related. The promotion announced it has signed Dream welterweight champion and head kick fiend Marius Zaromskis to a contract. No debut date was announced, but the signing appears to be a step in the direction Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has mentioned of bringing in Dream champions to unify their belts with Strikeforce titles. The two promotions have a working relationship. Zaromskis could make his debut on a Dec. 19 card from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, which will air on Showtime. That card will feature Matt Lindland vs. Ronaldo Souza and the promotional debut of Muhammed Lawal.

• UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has signed another high-profile sponsorship deal, this time with Under Armour athletic wear. St. Pierre will be the face of the company's BoxerJock, BoxerBrief, ColdGear and Recharge lines. His likeness will begin appearing on the items in the holidays through spring. Coupled with his deal with Gatorade, the deal makes St. Pierre by far the most impressive fighter in the sport in terms of attracting blue-chip sponsors. He is targeting February or March for a UFC return after healing a torn abductor muscle.
