The Ultimate Fighter Finale: The Wait is Over
Alex Schoenauer vs Mike Swick
Apr 6, 2005
Alex Schoenauer:
Jiu-Jitsu/Boxing/Kickboxing/Bozeman Martial Arts Academy • 6’3 •
205 lbs. • 10-0
Career Against Noteworthy Opponents: • Jason Fairn (1-0)
History on Ultimate Fighter: 0-1 Lost to Forrest Griffin via strikes in
Episode 9
--------------------------------
Mike Swick: Wrestling/Jiu-Jitsu/Tae Kwon Do/Kickboxing/Muay Thai/American Kickboxing Academy • 6’0 • 205 lbs. • 6-1
Career Against Noteworthy Opponents:
• Chris Leben (0-1)
History on Ultimate Fighter: 0-1
Lost to Stephan Bonnar by Triangle/Armbar in Episode 12
--------------------------------
The Better Striker: Tough call. Schoenauer surprised everyone in his bout with Forrest. He can bring it when he wants to. However, Swick has a lot of stand-up MA styles in his background and at 6-1 (four wins via strikes) he is certainly no slouch.
The Better Grappler: Another tough call. Schoenauer has more submission victories as a pro but looked very uncomfortable on the mat with Griffin. Swick has done submission wrestling and jiu-jitsu but didn’t get much screen time until the last episode.
And The Winner Is: Schoenauer looked “scary big” at 205 pounds. People can dramatically change your impression of them in just a single fight. If his ground game has caught up with his stand-up, this could be a short night for Swick. I think Schoenauer will win with strikes in the opening round.
