Sherdog’s Top 10: Pride Knockouts

No. 7

7. Dan Henderson vs. Wanderlei Silva
Pride 33
Feb. 24, 2007 | Las Vegas

Silva grew more vulnerable to the knockout as the miles accumulated on his body, but there was a time when he rarely lost at all. Yes, he had been beaten to a pulp and head kicked by Mirko Filipovic some six months earlier, but Silva was still very much a dominant force on the MMA scene and Pride’s defending 205-pound champion. When Henderson flatted him in the third round of their rematch, some wondered whether or not the Brazilian’s career might be over.

The two legends beat on each other from the start, but Silva took much more damage. He looked worn out and Henderson took the fight to him without mercy. Though both men were exhausted, Silva was running on fumes at the time of the knockout. Always trying to take out his foe, Silva tried in vain to land his vaunted right hand. He missed and “Hendo” nailed him with a crushing left hook. Silva fell flat on his back, his arms extended out to his sides. He was unable to prevent the massive right hammerfist that landed so violently that Silva’s limp body flopped once before “Hendo” was pushed off by the referee.

The victory made Henderson the first fighter to ever hold major MMA titles in two weight classes simultaneously.
