When he was at the height of his power, there was not a better striker in MMA than Silva. Though he had many jaw-dropping knockouts throughout his career, the one “The Spider” authored against Belfort in the UFC 126 headliner stands out. Belfort had twice been stopped on strikes by Randy Couture, but he had never been actually knocked out -- until he faced Silva.
Belfort tried to put his lethal hands to work, but the middleweight champion’s defense was superb and limited him to just a few glancing blows. Silva ended the fight with a magnificent left front kick to the face of “The Phenom.” Belfort folded where he stood and ate a few follow-up punches, unable to figure out why imaginary stars were circling his head. It was over 3:25 into round one.
