Conor McGregor was a fast-rising 10-2 contender when Cage Warriors Fighting Championship granted him the chance to capture its featherweight title against Dave Hill at CWFC 47 in June 2012. He did not blow away Hill like he had others. Rather, it took McGregor more than nine minutes to latch a rear-naked choke and finish it.

Six months later, the SBG Ireland cornerstone faced Ivan Buchinger for the CWFC lightweight championship and flattened him 3:40 into the first round. The win gave him simultaneous reigns in two different weight classes. McGregor has placed himself on a similar trajectory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Having already claimed the featherweight belt, he has designs on getting his hands on the 155-pound crown before 2016 is done.
