7. David Loiseau vs. Charles McCarthy
UFC 53 “Heavy Hitters”
June 4, 2005 | Atlantic City, N.J.
Loiseau always carried some popularity in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but for various reasons, his overall career achievements never quite lined up with his talent. He did, however, author one of the most thrilling and out-of-the-blue knockouts in UFC history.
McCarthy wanted the fight on the ground and spent much of the encounter taking “The Crow” off of his feet and trying to work his submission game. Loiseau withstood the ground attacks and scrambled to his feet in the second round. He kept a safe distance by tossing out a few jabs to the body and head before his attempt at a flying knee was blocked. As soon as McCarthy reset his feet, Loiseau spun around and planted his heel right in the American Top Team export’s gut. McCarthy doubled over and stumbled into the cage, looking like the stricken Bald Bull from Mike Tyson’s “Punch-Out!!” Loiseau followed his kill shot with another flying knee, and when McCarthy hit the deck, “The Crow” finished him there with punches.
