Women’s Bantamweights

Melissa Mullins (6-1, 1-1 UFC) vs. Klaudia Sygula (6-1, 0-0 UFC)

ODDS: Mullins (-238), Sygula (+195)

The UFC women’s bantamweight continues to shake itself out. Mullins has already hit a setback, but she has looked decent enough at the UFC level. “No Mess” can wrestle a bit, as was on display in her regional career, though she usually had to show a decent level of toughness to get to her best spots. That was the recipe for success in her UFC debut in 2023 against Irina Alekseeva, though the follow-up effort against Nora Cornolle in April was a bit more worrying in terms of her eventual ceiling. Mullins once again had a lot of wrestling success but got hit hard at times and eventually knocked out. This bout against a UFC newcomer should further help calibrate things for both women, as Sygula has looked solid but unspectacular in her regional career.

Sygula doesn’t read as much of a physical force even if she clearly has a bantamweight frame, but she has been able to either pick apart or brawl opponents, as needed, or pivot to some clinch work and wrestling, all with the caveat that it hasn’t been against a strong level of competition. This is basically a toss-up, given that Mullins has proven her strengths and weaknesses more than the Polish newcomer, but the Englishwoman gets the benefit of the doubt, if only for appearing to be the stronger fighter. The pick is Mullins via decision.
