Preview: UFC Fight Night 230 ‘Yusuff vs. Barboza’

Chairez vs. da Silva

Catchweights

Edgar Chairez (10-5, 0-1 UFC) vs. Daniel da Silva (11-5, 0-4 UFC)

ODDS: Chairez (-298), da Silva (+240)

After a referee error ended the first Chairez-da Silva bout, the UFC runs it back three weeks later. This marks a record-setting sixth straight opportunity for da Silva to earn his first UFC win, and it is a testament to his exciting fight style that the promotion has seen him as worth keeping around. Brazil’s “Miojo” is an exceedingly hot starter who has gotten close to an early finish a few times, showing highly effective aggression, both on the feet and on the mat. That has made it all the more disheartening that da Silva has managed to give every fight away, exhausting himself once his opponent survives his opening salvos and then getting finished shortly thereafter. To his credit, da Silva looked more patient to start his fight against Chairez, though it looked set to end in similar fashion, with the latter securing a deep guillotine choke when the fight was stopped early. As for Chairez, he figures to be a stalwart of the flyweight division going forward, even if he is not a prospect with a ton of obvious upside. A training partner of Mexican countryman Brandon Moreno, Chairez is a well-rounded and crafty vet who is a tough out almost anywhere the fight goes. That makes him a likelier opponent than most to outlast da Silva, and nothing from the first fight changed that idea much. The pick is Chairez via second-round submission.
