Brendan Schaub (4-0), a 26-year-old out of Denver, choked out Demico Rogers (4-0), a 27-year-old Washingtonian in this week’s bout. Rogers got an early takedown and passed to side control, but Schaub was able to sweep and set up the fight-ending anaconda choke in the first round. Rogers’ coach Quinton Jackson did not enter the cage following the fight, leaving Evans' squad to encourage the fighter from the opposing team. Jackson held a meeting with his coaching staff and blamed them for telling Rogers to pass the guard, when he had top control.
Spike TV has teased the possibility that Marcus Jones would step down from competition after suffering an ailment and that ratings powerhouse Kimbo Slice could potentially step up in his stead. Jones emerged from his room sweating profusely for no discernable reason, but it wasn't touched on further. Jones told ESPN.com “MMA Live” that the sweats set in three hours after training; he said he hadn’t eaten much that day and was fine once he ate a power bar and drank fluids.
It appears the tease will continue throughout the season, as the trailer for next week’s episode still talked of Kimbo “waiting for his shot at redemption.”
This week’s episode scored a 2.2 rating on Spike TV for an average of 2.8 million viewers, according to MMAPayout.com. The number is way down from an all-time-high 3.7 scored last week for Slice’s fight against Roy Nelson. The episode was still the highest-rated show on cable that night among 18- to 34-year-olds, and still a level above last season’s standard numbers.
