Faber Exits WEC 50
Just weeks after announcing its top star would debut at bantamweight against Takeya Mizugaki on Aug. 18, World Extreme Cagefighting lost an injured Urijah Faber from the WEC 50 event.
Faber injured his knee in training and pulled out of the show, which will be headlined by Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez for the 135-pound title. Faber will not need surgery and is expected to return in September.
The WEC is reportedly set to make its first venture into Colorado in September; several reports pegged WEC 51 for the Broomfield Events Center. While no main event has been announced, it is expected to be a Jose Aldo vs. Manny Gamburyan featherweight title fight. Reports also placed Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia, Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick and Chan Sung Jung vs. George Roop for the show.
