"Tank" Abbott and Ken
Shamrock may meet at last.
Odds and Ends

• A fight over a decade in the making between Ken Shamrock and David "Tank" Abbott appears set after both picked up quick first-round wins on Feb. 13 in Fresno, Calif., at Wargods "Valentine's Eve Massacre," which was also promoted by Ken Shamrock Productions. Shamrock dropped the 380-pound Ross Clifton with a right hand and armbarred him, while Abbott put down Mike Bourke with a wild punch to the neck. Shamrock took home a $25,000 payday, while Abbott was not far behind with $20,000. Shamrock, who picked up his first win since 2004, has said he plans to promote a pay-per-view show featuring himself versus Abbott this year in Reno, Nev.

• Early-era UFC icon Kimo Leopoldo faces felony charges for possessing methamphetamine in Tustin, Calif. Leopoldo, 41, was arrested on Feb. 16 wearing a Long Beach Police Dept. uniform that had a cloth badge and read “POLICE” across the back that authorities said was stolen. He tested positive for methamphetamine at the police station and drug paraphernalia was found in his car. Leopoldo had thrown his name into the ring as a candidate for the vacant executive director position for the California State Athletic Commission.

• No. 3-ranked middleweight Gegard Mousasi is moving out of the weight division, and looking to light heavyweight and heavyweight runs. Mousasi, 23, told Sherdog.com that the 185-pound cut would be too difficult as he grows, and that he'll likely be vacating the Dream middleweight title he captured by winning a tournament last year. He's expected to fight again in March in Dream and in the summer for Affliction, possibly against Vitor Belfort.

• Heavyweight kingpin Fedor Emelianenko said in an interview with DreamFighter.com this week that he hopes to meet with UFC President Dana White in June to discuss a future fight with UFC champion Brock Lesnar. White has decried the fact that, in prior negotiations to bring in Emelianenko, he never actually met him.

Caol Uno is set to compete in the Octagon for the first time since 2003 for a fight against Spencer Fisher at UFC 99 on June 13 in Germany, according to MMAJunkie.com.

• The next World Extreme Cagefighting card, WEC 39 on March 1, was rounded out this week with a series of fight announcements. Featherweight title contender Jose Aldo’s next test will come against submission-savvy Chris Mickle, a Iraq war veteran from Iowa. Also set is a welterweight fight between NCAA national wrestling champion Johny Hendricks and Alex Serdyukov. The bout is curious because WEC recently eliminated its welterweight division and moved champion Carlos Condit to the UFC ranks. WEC 39, emanating from Corpus Christi, Texas, is headlined by Mike Thomas Brown vs. Leonard Garcia for the featherweight title.
