Bobby Lashley made a
splash in his MMA debut.
A month after former World Wrestling Entertainment champion Brock Lesnar captured the UFC heavyweight title in his fourth MMA fight, another former professional wrestling giant and “Wrestlemania” headliner won his MMA debut in dominant fashion.
Bobby Lashley, a 250-pound heavyweight and former NAIA national champion, took out Joshua Franklin in 41 seconds at Mixed Fighting Alliance “There Will Be Blood” on Dec. 11 in Miami, Fla. After a forceful lift and takedown, Lashley landed punches on the floor and on his feet that opened a fight-ending cut near Franklin’s hairline. Lashley, 32, has trained with the American Kickboxing Academy and now trains alongside Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at American Top Team. Lashley told The Miami Herald that a fight with Lesnar “will happen,” while the Figure Four Weekly newsletter reported Lashley has designs on getting into the UFC in 2010 after he gets some more experience on regional shows next year.
