8. “Fight Club” (1999)
Nothing could have prepared audiences for the dark, violent and bizarre world created by director David Fincher in “Fight Club,” which was released on Sept. 21, 1999, earned $100.9 million and became a cult classic. Edward Norton stars as an unnamed and disenfranchised Narrator who happens upon an eccentric drifter named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). Together they form an underground club and square off with likeminded men in mixed fights in an effort to break up the monotony of day-to-day life. The relationship between Durden and the Narrator becomes predictably strained, but the movie finishes on the highest of notes with a swerve few saw coming. David Frank called “Fight Club” a “masterpiece of craftsmanship” in a ComingSoon.net column marking the 10-year anniversary of its release.
