Herman is a Team Quest fighter and graduate of the gym’s instructor’s course. In combat fighting he has won the Sportfight light heavyweight title, ISKA middleweight title, Desert Brawl middleweight title (both amateur and pro), and the Ring Wars middleweight title.
Herman has been fighting since 2002 and is 10-5-0 as a pro in MMA with a record of 7-1 as an amateur. In ’05 he went undefeated at 4-0 and stopped UFC veterans in back-to-back performances. Neither Nick Thompson (Pictures) nor Dave Menne (Pictures) saw the second round against Herman.
He was cast on The Ultimate Fighter 3 and was an early favorite to take the contract. Ed advanced to the show’s semifinals when he submitted Danny Abbadi via armbar and went to the final when he submitted Rory Singer (Pictures) via rear-naked choke.
On the season finale, Herman fought a back-and-forth battle with Grove. He lost a unanimous decision, but his gutsy performance earned him a contract as well.
Herman returned to battle Octagon newcomer Jason MacDonald (Pictures) at the Tito Ortiz (Pictures)-Ken Shamrock (Pictures) II pay-per-view last October. He was stunned, losing the bout via submission midway through the first round.
Chris Price, a former U.S. Marine, fights for the Legends of Fighting Championships official team: Damage Incorporated. He trains boxing and wrestling with Jessie Chilton, Davion Peterson, Sean Salmon (Pictures), Jon Welsey Tarrh and others. Chris served in Iraq for two years and spent nine months in Afghanistan.
“The Exorcist” began fighting in September of ’05, and carries a professional MMA record of 8-1-0 with two additional wins as an amateur, and is the current Legends of Fighting middleweight champion. His UFC debut served as his first loss when Kendall Grove (Pictures) stopped him strikes on the same card as Herman’s most recent loss.
I respect Price’s record and background but aside from Grove (who he lost to) he hasn’t fought anyone with much experience. I expect him to give it everything he has, but Herman needs a solid performance here to remain in the good graces of the UFC.
We all know it is a “what have you done for me lately” world and sport. A loss here could put Herman out of the Octagon until he beats a significant UFC vet outside the promotion. Price would gain ground with a win and be invited back, but the loss won’t crush him. Herman has to be impressive here. I think Herman pulls out the win via submission.
