Women’s Strawweights
NR | Lupita Godinez (5-1, 0-1 UFC) vs. NR | Silvana Gomez Juarez (10-2, 0-0 UFC)ODDS: Godinez (-275), Juarez (+215)
Despite a disappointing loss in her UFC debut, Godinez is still a prospect to watch. Heading into that UFC debut in April, the Mexican-Canadian had impressed with a pressure-heavy style backed by some legitimate power, even if it tended to result in dominant decision wins rather than any consistent ability to score a knockout. However, Jessica Penne wound up making it a frustrating night for “Loopy” in that UFC debut. Penne used her lanky frame to tie up Godinez and slow down the fight, eventually scoring a narrow decision win. Godinez looks to rebound from her first pro loss, as she takes on a late replacement and UFC newcomer in Juarez.

An Argentinian fighting out of Mexico, Juarez has some decent tools in the striking realm, including some knockout power at the regional level. With that said, she very much looks to be the type of fighter who will have trouble making everything work against better athletes in the UFC. Dropping down to strawweight for her UFC run only seems to put her at a speed disadvantage, and while “La Malvada” may eventually make up for that with some additional power, this appears to be the completely wrong fight for that to happen, as Godinez is one of the stronger strawweights on the roster. The pick is Godinez by clear decision.
