NR | Brok Weaver (14-4) vs. NR | Rodrigo Vargas (10-3)ODDS: Weaver (-310), Vargas (+255)
As long as he won his fight on Dana White’s Contender Series, Weaver looked like a lock to get a contract, as he is exactly the type of all-action, blood-and-guts fighter for which UFC President Dana White figured to fall. Indeed, even if his fight against Devyn Smyth was a bit of a slog, Weaver got the victory and a spot on the UFC roster along with it. Weaver is a perfectly fine fighter, and to his credit, he is at least well-rounded in his aggression. Yes, he is willing to throw down, but he has also caused some damage on the regional scene in the clinch and on the mat. There is probably not a high ceiling here, but his skills should probably be enough to get past Vargas.
Vargas is a solid veteran out of Mexico who has the type of well-rounded game you would expect from someone who has done this for nearly a decade. However, he is not particularly physically imposing and has trouble dictating his fights against better athletes.
Weaver should be able to keep a pace and tire him out. The pick is Weaver via second-round submission.
