Featherweights
Gabriel Braga (12-1, 4-1 PFL) vs. Justin Gonzales (14-3, 0-0 PFL)Braga’s 12-fight winning streak led him to a shot at the featherweight $1 million dollar prize in 2023. He had already defeated Jesus Pinedo during the regular season, but Pinedo’s adjustments were too much in the championship rematch. Life took an even darker turn just two months later when Braga’s father was murdered in Brazil. Braga passed on the opportunity to fight at “PFL vs. Bellator Champs,” but now he is back to finish business in the tournament. Braga’s heavy hands make him a threat, and his grappling has kept him out of trouble. He relies on heavy leg kicks and fundamental boxing but sometimes takes his foot off the gas late in fights.
Gonzales comes over from Bellator after back-to-back losses against Mads Burnell and Timur Khizriev. Gonzales may have had a rough 2023, but the Top Notch MMA prospect rolls into 2024 with an opportunity to turn things around. Gonzales does not have the power advantage in this fight, but he does have a durable chin that will allow him to go to war with Braga for 15 minutes. Braga has the advantage in power, but Gonzales could prove to be the more durable fighter. This could produce fireworks for as long as it lasts.
