UFC Fight Night 19 Preview: The Prelims

Dollaway vs. Silva

CB Dollaway vs. Jay Silva

The Storyline: After going 2-2 in his previous four UFC appearances (2-3 if you count the semifinal loss to Amir Sadollah on TUF as well), Dollaway has slid from co-headliner to pay-per-view opener to PPV dark match participant and is now stuck deep in the undercard of one of the smaller television shows. The “Doberman” has his back against the doghouse.

The Breakdown: Dollaway has lost to debutant Sadollah twice, beat a badly injured Mike Massenzio and got choked out in under a minute by Tom Lawlor, making his only credible win against a relatively inexperienced Jesse Taylor. As a result, he has yet to prove he can back up the big talk he talked on TUF and demonstrate that he deserves to be in the UFC from a sporting perspective as well.

Joe Silva has thrown him a bone by feeding him unrenowned grappler Jay Silva. The BJJ purple belt does have heavy hands, but when somebody’s best wins are against opponents who are barely above the .500 mark, it smells as if he has been set up to lose. To give Silva or his management credit, though, he deserves applause for making the UFC after only four years of MMA training.

The Prediction: Expect Dollaway to do what is expected of him and stop the debutant with punches from top position in the first round.
