Nick Osipczak vs. Matt Riddle

The Breakdown: Two undefeated alumni of “The Ultimate Fighter” match wits and fists. Osipczak’s multi-faceted offense stands in stark contrast to Riddle’s demoralizing top control. A hulking welterweight, Riddle’s lockdown wrestling can turn the cage into Alcatraz, which means Osipczak will have to control range above all else.

The bulk of Riddle’s takedowns take place in the clinch, and while Osipczak has proven a capable grappler, trying to work from underneath Riddle is like trying to get through “War and Peace” in one sitting. Unless Osipczak can keep clear of the clinch, he will discover what being on the business end of a steamroller feels like.

The X-Factor: Riddle has been nothing short of suffocating in his bouts thus far, and with good reason; most of his opposition did not pose a real threat from the guard. That is not the case with Osipczak, who would still be best served staying upright but has the fluidity in his jiu-jitsu to disrupt Riddle’s base. Sooner or later Osipczak will land on his back. What he does from there is far more important.

The Bottom Line: Those who cannot stop Riddle from dragging them into the deep end might as well not show up. Another three-round wrestling session for Riddle ends as usual, with a unanimous decision nod and plenty of frustrated fans heading for a bathroom break.
