"Mismanagement, it was mismanaged by people that didn't know MMA,
that didn't have the proper years of experience. It's not an exact
science. There's not a book that you can write to learn how to
promote shows." -- veteran ICON Sport promoter T. Jay Thompson
and EliteXC executive consultant to Sherdog.com about Pro Elite's
folding.
"If I had to point fingers why this thing went bad, I'd have trouble, because I only have two hands." -- Thompson to The Los Angeles Times.
"Today is a good day." -- Dana White on his video blog reacting
to EliteXC's demise.
“It really hurts. It bothers me that I won't get this fight. I have bills to pay. They basically had no backup plan." -- Joey Villasenor to ESPN about his Nov. 8 title fight with Robbie Lawler falling through when Pro Elite folded.
"Remember that hideous dragon from the first EliteXC event in February 2007? It cost a couple hundred thousand dollars and has remained in some Mississippi storage facility ever since. That kind of over the top spending was emblematic of the early attitude that spending -- on anything -- was fine." -- SI.com's Josh Gross citing a strange prop as emblematic of EliteXC's decision-making problems.
"Where are all the rabid sycophants who went wild with their e-mails when I said this thing last week is a fraud? Where are they? It's a fraud! Go home! Get out!" -- ESPN's Michael Wilbon, who has suggested EliteXC fixed the Oct. 4 fight so Petruzelli could beat Slice, commenting on the promotion’s collapse on “Pardon The Interruption.”
"You never know what a fighter's thinking or what he wants to do. One of the funny things is everybody's always talking about how much we pay our fighters, 'Oh they don't pay your fighters enough.' Anderson Silva's the best fighter in the world, he's a young guy, and he's talking about retiring. You know why? Because he's f-----g rich, that's why. If I was Anderson Silva, I'd retire too." -- UFC President Dana White on talk of Silva's retirement.
"I think I have the perfect style to beat this guy." -- Patrick Cote on Sherdog radio about his Oct. 25 bout Anderson Silva at UFC 90.
"I think Cote has a way bigger shot than people are giving him credit him for . . . Styles makes fights and Patrick's proved to have a solid chin, heavy hands and he's very technical in there with the striking. In other words, he's going to come in there with some strategy and I definitely can see him making the upset there." -- upset king Matt Serra to The Canadian Press on his TUF 4 housemate.
"Whenever it comes, I'll be happy. I'm in no rush. If the UFC says I've got a title shot in my next bout, then fine -- if they say it will be after five more fights, then I'm happy with that too." -- Michael Bisping in post-fight remarks after defeating Chris Leben.
"That's my favorite fight ever right there. That fight that you guys just watched, that was fun." -- Chris Leben, his face battered from punches from Michael Bisping, on the microphone after his loss at UFC 89.
“They still haven't proved that he took Boldenone. We're playing with people's careers here, their lives. We're throwing medical terms around as if they're playing cards, but we're not getting down to the nitty gritty. What is proof and what's not? We know that he's innocent. We know he didn't take anything, so they have to prove that he didn't, which still hasn't happened." -- Alex Davis, manager of Antonio Silva, to Sherdog.com about Silva's steroid suspension being upheld by the California State Athletic Commission.
"People say, 'Well, what are you doing rolling the same day of the fight?' Well, listen jabronis! Anybody who tells you they don't roll on the day of the fight is stupid! Because there's proof every single time that you go to a fight, when they put the cameras in the room and they show guys punching mitts, they show guys shooting on each other, they show guys rolling on the floor. So don't tell me you don't roll on the day of the fight! Because you do it four hours before you go into the ring! I just happened to do it a little sooner than that. But it's still the same thing!" -- Ken Shamrock shouting on Inside MMA about the pre-fight cut that killed the Kimbo Slice fight on Oct. 4.
"I oppose 100 percent this ultimate fighting. It has taken boxing to the era of the caveman and the Roman circus. These are not ancient times. This fighting is fed to those fans who like aggression, blood and illegality. They are not boxing fans. Boxing fans have class." -- Jose Sulaiman, longtime head of the World Boxing Council, to Reuters.
The Week Ahead
With EliteXC folding and Affliction holding off on another event until early next year, the rest of 2008 belongs to the UFC domestically. All the fallout from UFC 90 on Saturday, which will be the UFC’s debut in the Chicago market headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote for the middleweight title, Josh Koscheck vs. Thiago Alves for welterweight rank and several other competitive fights. Promotional attention then immediately turns to UFC 91 on Nov. 15, potentially one of the biggest nights in company history with UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar in the main event.

"It's unfortunate for all the fighters who put all their eggs in
one basket. You can't do that in this business." -- Eddie
Alvarez to NBC Sports about EliteXC fighters being in limbo
after the collapse.
