UFC 91 huge success, approaches
record
Reports surfaced in the past week that UFC 91 on Nov. 15, headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture, drew 1.01 million buys on pay-per-view, the second highest in history. Late buy reports could see it rival the 1.05 million that UFC 66 did in Dec. 06 with a main event of Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz. The Wrestling Observer reported that the total revenue take for the UFC on the night was $50 million, an all-time record (UFC 66 cost $5 more to buy on pay-per-view).
The Observer also reported that due to a contract clause that gives him a cut of the PPV revenue, Couture would take home a total of $2.61 million for his return after an 18-month hiatus. The numbers seem to indicate that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is the biggest pay-per-view draw in the sport.
