9. “Fighting” (2009)
Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum), a small-time counterfeiter struggles to make ends meet in Dito Montiel’s “Fighting.” His luck changes when he forms a partnership with Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard), a scam artist who notices MacArthur’s pugilistic talents. Boarden makes him a star on the underground bare-knuckle circuit, a dark and seedy world from which there appears to be no escape. “Fighting” hit theaters on April 24, 2009 and cast former Strikeforce champion Cung Le in a supporting role. Critics were not impressed. ComingSoon.net’s Brad Brevet did not hold back: “Off the top of my head, I can’t remember a film that tried to act this tough but came off so weak.” Despite the presence of Tatum and Howard, it made a little more than $32 million at the box office.
