9. Christian M'Pumbu
Even though M’Pumbu boasted a submission victory over Stefan Struve on his resume, few paid attention to him when he entered the Bellator Season 4 light heavyweight tournament in March 2011. He was undersized for the weight class and little about him screamed future champion. However, back-to-back finishes on Chris Davis and Tim Carpenter advanced M’Pumbu to the tournament final, where a clash with the 6-foot-4 Rich Hale awaited on May 21, 2011. They fought into the third round before the Frenchman put away Hale with punches to capture Bellator gold at 205 pounds. M’Pumbu ceded his throne to Attila Vegh at Bellator 91 in February 2013 and never again regained hit, his run as champion over at 650 days.
