8. Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 3

Gray had already hurt Frankie several times and almost had him out when they fought twice before, but he only had a decision win and a lousy draw to show for it. Edgar is among the toughest dudes on the circuit and “The Bully” found that out the hard way, as even though he had his foe on Queer Street again and again in the opening round of their third fight, Frankie couldn’t be put away for good.
Edgar fought back bravely but Gray was all over him, looking better than he arguably ever had in his entire career. With letting Edgar off the hook in their second match, there was no chance that the former NCAA wrestler would allow it to happen again. But like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Frankie is bred from a different cloth and he withstood all the punishment again and again, only to become stronger as the fight wore on.
With his face busted up and blood dripping from his nose, Edgar’s movement and darting in-and-out style perplexed Maynard and by the time the fourth was drawing to a close, Edgar appeared to have seized control of the action, though he was still behind on the cards. Finally, a missile of a right hand landed square on Gray’s chin and the uppercut dropped him. “The Bully” quickly jumped to his feet but he stumbled into the cage where Frankie levelled him with a looping right hook and then follow-up strikes as Maynard turtled up, eventually being rescued by the ref.
