Women’s Flyweights
NR | Lupita Godinez (6-1, 1-1 UFC) vs. NR | Luana Carolina (7-2, 2-1 UFC)Just a week after her first-round submission of Silvana Gomez Juarez, Godinez steps back into the Octagon up a weight class for a record-breaking turnaround. That last victory re-affirmed “Loopy” as a strawweight prospect to watch after she lost her late-notice debut to Jessica Penne, and Godinez figures to be able to hang at a flyweight level of physicality. She is notably strong at 115 pounds, both in terms of hitting with power and being able to slam her opponents. Godinez is the obvious story here, but on the other side of the cage is Brazil’s Carolina, who is also looking to build on the best performance of her UFC career. Carolina is a rangy striker who beat an exceptionally poor level of opposition to make it to the UFC, which showed in her first two Octagon appearances. While she had some impressive moments and did enough to beat Priscila Cachoeira, Carolina’s form and confidence quickly went out the window when faced with any level of adversity. However, “Dread” put together her most composed effort to date in May, taking advantage of Poliana Botelho’s single-strike style and handling herself surprisingly well in some grappling exchanges. That gives her some hope in this one, but the pressure Godinez brings figures to be enough to get Carolina out of her comfort zone and slowly take over this fight. The pick is Godinez via second-round submission.
