De La Rosa vs. Borella
Women’s Flyweights
#12 WFLW | Montana De La Rosa (10-5) vs. #13 WFLW | Mara Romero Borella (12-6)Advertisement
One half of the first married couple in UFC history—her husband will compete on the undercard—De La Rosa is one of the better prospects in the women's flyweight division, even if she is still figuring out things. For the most part, De La Rosa gets by on aggression, constantly moving forward in search of clinches and submission exchanges. In her pre-UFC career, that led directly into losses against Mackenzie Dern and Cynthia Calvillo, but it has worked better inside the Octagon, even if that approach stalled out a bit in her last fight against Andrea Lee. De La Rosa looks to rebound here against a similar challenge in Italy’s Borella, who often looks to leverage her physicality.
Borella has a relatively simple approach, either staying outside at range to disincentivize her opponents with powerful single strikes or diving into the clinch to bull them around. It is a difficult call as to who takes this. De La Rosa may be able to take rounds based off activity, but Borella’s frustrating approach may lead to the American either chasing her on the feet or getting pinned against the fence.
De La Rosa had enough success in grappling exchanges against Lee to make her the favorite. The pick is De La Rosa via decision in one of the tougher fights on the card to handicap.
