Unfortunately for hardcore MMA fans out there, this past weekend's awesome WEC event from inside the Hard Rock in Vegas wasn't televised. From top to bottom the card was stacked with intriguing match-ups and from start to finish every fighter gave it his all.
While it's safe to say that the WEC will never surpass the UFC in terms of revenue generated and fan interest, the organization is top-notch. As long as they keep delivering shows like the one they assembled on Saturday, they'll be making a ton of noise in the sport. Trust me. Do yourself a favor and catch the next WEC whenever it is.

Now that it has been confirmed that the UFC has bought PRIDE, here's hoping that Zuffa will eventually venture into professional boxing. Somebody needs to clean up the world's most corrupt sport and why not Zuffa? They have the financial backing and with dinosaurs like Don King and Bob Arum on the verge of extinction, now's the chance to capitalize and bring boxing back to where it was in the 1950s.
On top of that, why not scoop up K-1 while they're at it? It is more improbable than one would think, but K-1 is my personal favorite event to cover. It's basically never on pay-per-view anymore and only a few thousand ever show up for the live events in the States. Please, for me, guys, scoop up K-1 as well!
At the top of this column I mentioned that I knew it would happen but surprised at how the deal unfolded. I knew eventually that one way or another the two giants would come together. But I never thought it would be a breathing-through-tubes PRIDE that had to be bought out. The Japanese organization used to rake in millions upon millions of dollars (that's a ton of yen) for every show and they used to pay their fighters seemingly 10 times as much as UFC guys. How quickly things change, huh?
I am dying to know exactly how many stitches WEC fighter Eddie Wineland (Pictures) had to get put into his ear after having it literally explode from an elbow strike on Saturday. If you've ever stomped on a ketchup packet, you'll get the picture.
