Couture Imposes Will on Belfort, Reclaims UFC Light-Heavyweight Title
Joe Riggs vs Joe Doerksen
Josh Gross Aug 22, 2004
The night's swing bout featured UFC newcomers Joe Riggs and
Joe Doerksen. The
middleweights battled into the second round before Riggs' power
bested Doerksen's technique. In round two, following the second low
blow of the contest, Riggs ire towards Doerksen (27-6-0) grew --
and so did his effectiveness in the ring.
From that point forward, Riggs, 21-4-0, became ultra-aggressive, delivering a heavy dose of ground-and-pound, including elbows that opened a deep cut above the Canadian middleweight's right eye. Riggs blasted away until a massive forearm strike landed flush on Doerksen's face, prompting him to tapout on the mat 3:39 of the second period.
