The UFC is planning its maiden voyage into Australia on Feb. 21 at the 21,000-seat Acer Arena in Sydney. The event will likely be UFC 111, headlined by Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama.
The UFC’s U.K. office is working on television and pay-per-view distribution for the show. Yahoo! Sports reported the event is scheduled for a live pay-per-view in North America, meaning the live broadcast will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Sydney for airing in the usual 10 p.m. Eastern Time slot in the United States.
The UFC appears to be looking at shaking up the traditional calendar of events on either Wednesdays or Saturdays in 2010. The company has contacted Virginia officials about holding a show there on Monday, Jan. 11. The UFC has not held a live event on a Monday since UFC Fight Night 2 in October 2005.
