UFC sets sights on Germany

The UFC's first card in Germany is locked for June 13, and the widespread buzz is that Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture will face off for a fourth time in the main event. UFC 99 will be held at the largest indoor sports arena in Germany and be produced with Europe's largest concert promoter. Bloodyelbow.com was the first to report the date. Talk of Couture fighting on a card in Germany began soon after his loss to Brock Lesnar, in large part because he speaks German, which he picked up during his time serving in that country for the U.S. Army.

Couture told Sherdog.com early this week that he had not been officially approached with the fight, but is somewhat open to moving to light heavyweight for the “right fight” or remaining at heavyweight. The UFC does not have a television deal in Germany, though by week's end there were unconfirmed reports out of the German media that the company had signed with the German network “Pro Sieben,” a popular channel that broadcasts several American programs in the country.

The U.K. Sun had reported that Liddell was in the running to face Anderson Silva on the UFC 95 on Feb. 21 in London, but this week the newspaper said plans have changed. The Sun reported Silva is now set to meet either the winner of the Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva fight or the Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans fight.
