There were a series of developments this week as the UFC attempted to get a handle on its slate of cards for the first quarter of 2010.
Another UFC 108 bout fell through as Gabriel Gonzaga withdrew from a heavyweight clash with Junior dos Santos due to a staph infection in his arm. No replacement has been announced yet. The Jan. 2 card was, for a brief time, set to feature another significant heavyweight fight between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, but was cancelled due to a similar infection suffered by the Brazilian. That bout is now targeted for UFC 110 on Feb. 21.
That card, emanating from Sydney, Australia, will also see the return of grizzled UFC veteran Elvis Sinosic, an Australian native, against fellow tenured countryman Chris Haseman, according to FightersOnly.com. The card -- for weeks thought to he headlined by Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama -- has been changed to Silva vs. Michael Bisping, coming of the Brit‘s impressive win over Denis Kang at UFC 105, according to The Brisbane Times.
