9. Never Coming to Terms with the UFC

Many felt disappointed that the greatest heavyweight ever never fought in the most popular and successful MMA promotion, even if it was not always the best one, especially during Pride’s heavyweight heyday. Negotiations between the UFC and Emelianenko’s management took place several times, but broke down every time, with the apparent sticking point being the Russian’s desire to have M-1 Global co-promote his fights. UFC President Dana White predictably blamed Emelianenko’s team for the failure to reach a deal, calling them “crazy” and impossible to work with; strangely, many other major MMA promotions, including EliteXC, Strikeforce and Bellator MMA, were able to deal with them just fine.
