The Arizona-based Dollaway has enjoyed a successful but somewhat up-and-down career but finally seemed to be turning the corner when he faced Machida. He had won four of his previous five fights and at times looked superb in doing so. Things did not go according to plan against Machida, and Dollaway has yet to win since.

After the two middleweights spent roughly a minute pawing with jabs and feeling out each other, “The Dragon” unfurled his left shin and sent it crashing into Dollaway’s liver. “The Doberman” grimaced in pain, backed away and tried to recover. Machida was already on him, volleying punches to the head and body. Dollaway’s only recourse was to cover up in the fetal position, prompting referee Jerin Valel to stop their main event just 62 seconds after it began.
