Alessandro Costa (12-3, 0-1 UFC) vs. Jimmy Flick (16-6, 1-1 UFC)Flick’s return from retirement was not particularly successful, but “The Brick” should still be able to find some wins going forward. Flick’s fights are a relatively straightforward proposition. He is an aggressive and creative grappler who chains together submission attempts in creative fashion but can also get overwhelmed when opponents manage to lock him out of his type of fight. A flying triangle choke of Cody Durden in December 2020 was an impressive start to his UFC career, but Flick surprisingly announced his retirement shortly thereafter, returning in January against Charles Johnson for a fight where he got little done before getting pounded out on the mat. He will look to rebound against Costa, who is looking to string together the most impressive performance of his career. Born in Brazil and training out of Mexico, Costa’s regional footage paints the picture of a fun scrapper with some knockout power, but he has disappointed in his two biggest shots to date. His Dana White’s Contender Series bout in 2022 was a frustrating affair in which Costa struggled with a much longer opponent, and he quickly ran out of options in a late-notice UFC debut against Amir Albazi in December. Flick is going to press Costa into action at the very least. From there, this is essentially a coinflip where Flick will either charge into something huge or tie up Costa in short order. This should be a mad dash to a finish. The pick is Costa via first-round knockout.
